Jim didn't expect a book about kite-flying to absolutely destroy him, but here we are. Hosseini writes about guilt and redemption with such honesty that it burrows right past your defenses. The Afghanistan sections — both the beautiful childhood memories and the horrifying Taliban reality — are vivid enough to taste. "For you, a thousand times over" is a line that will haunt this worm forever. Bring tissues. Bring the whole box.
