Even knowing how the Iliad ends, nothing prepares you. Madeline Miller, you brilliant human — this one could make a worm weep openly. The love story between Achilles and Patroclus is so tender and achingly beautiful that a pile of tissues is required afterward. This book wrecks you in the best possible way. Read it, cry, and then read it again.
