Best Reading Order

Read the five novels in publication order. A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons happen partly at the same time, each following a different group of characters. Some fans use a combined reading order that alternates chapters from both, but publication order works fine for a first read.

Companion Books

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms collects the Dunk and Egg novellas, set about a century before the main series, and Fire & Blood is a history of House Targaryen. Both stand on their own and can be read before or after the novels.
